DanceWorks, Toronto's longest-running contemporary dance series, presents the world premiere of Tribal Crackling Wind's Fluency, a multidisciplinary piece that examines four-time Dora Mavor Moore Award-winning choreographer Peter Chin's attempt to integrate into the culture of Nicaragua. Fluency runs November 3 – 5 at Harbourfront Centre's Enwave Theatre.

Can one become Nicaraguan? Jamaican-born, Toronto-based choreographer, dancer and musician Peter Chin answers that question in this piece imbued with his trademark finesse and humour. Over a three-year period, Chin - together with videographer Jeremy Mimnagh - documented his travels to Nicaragua with the impossible mission of transforming himself into a Nicaraguan, partly through learning the Spanish language.

Fluency is a melange of video footage of Chin’s successes and failures in Nicaragua mixed with live dance performed by Vancouver dancer Alison Denham, a couch interview with actor/dancer Billy Marchenski and analysis by York University professor María Constanza Guzmán. The sum of these parts is an atypical progress report that lies somewhere between dance, theatre, video and a talk show.
