Dance is a form of non verbal expression, a vital part of culture and is used as a means to explore the world we live in. This contemporary, performance based course explores the theme of 'African animals' which will be used as a visual and auditory stimulus for students in Years 3 - 6 to choreograph and compose movement phrases. Students will work individually and collaboratively to sequence movement stories about themes and issues they derived from their stimulus. They will explore the improvisation process and its importance in the choreographic process. They will also learn movement principles and stylised techniques through problem solving and directed teaching. This learning opportunity is an inspiring way to develop creativity, imagination and individuality. At the conclusion of the program parents will be invited to view a presentation of the students' work. This course is suitable for students in Years 3 to 6.
