Sten Rudstrom, an artist-in-residence at Carleton College, will lead the members of the Carleton campus community in improvisational dance performances, titled "The Crossing: An Outdoor Improvisational Performance," on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on the Carleton College Bald Spot. The events are free and open to the public.

After earning his bachelor?s degree in chemistry and mathematics from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, Rudstrom went on to receive an M.F.A. in art and performance and began his career in dance. He has danced in dozens of performances over the past 10 years and has worked exclusively on the West Coast and in Europe since 2002. He has focused on teaching the skills he has learned in his career and has instructed at colleges, community centers and with dance groups in the U.S. and abroad.

In the performance at Carleton, Rudstrom will assist participants in developing vocal, verbal and physical performance skills through practice?in isolation and with others. The exercises will offer a quick training in formal elements of time, space, shape and dynamics and also will push participants to express emotion and strengthen imagination in order to provide the best performance possible.

For more information and disability accommodations, call the Carleton dance department at (507) 646-4486.
