"Folk music is an outburst of an uninhibited expression of human emotion. Hence it often transcends geographic and political boundaries and manifests as a common global phenomenon. Dr Padma Subrahmanyam offers her choreography using 'Caris' or leg movements culled out of the 'Natya Sastra' to suit an authentic piece of folk music from Southern France. She has choreographed this specially at Nrithyodaya for Francoise Carret who herself hails from Southern France. Showcasing this cultural integration between India and France, Dr Padma herself performed this along with Nrithyodaya artistes as a daring addition to the grand finale of a traditional dance drama, 'Viralimalai Kuravanji' in Singapore and Malaysia in May, 2009. This number is a special offering of greetings to France during the celebration of their National Day, 2009." As part of the French National Day Celebrations.
