Dan Zamudio's photographs are intimately scaled, hand-printed, black and white images reminiscent of the faded, vintage works of old photo albums. Captured through the plastic lens of a Diana camera, a toy camera discontinued in the early 1970s, Zamudio's photographs feature the architectural elements and long-lasting signs that reveal the historic layers of Chicago's neighborhoods. The use of multiple exposures echoes the visual syncopation of a sightseeing walk through the city's older commercial strips. In a style mimicking the film noir style of the 1940s and '50s, his most recent work captures the neon signs that are quickly vanishing from the Chicago landscape.
