Dan Decker, author of "Anatomy of a Screenplay," originally coined the phrase "character structure" as a way to demonstrate that character, not plot, is the story. Decker, founder of The Screenwriters Group, manages screenplay competitions and produces weekend seminars around the country. He teaches story structure in his six-month comprehensive ProSeries, and he applies the process to newly-released movies in a regular Film Discussion Group at the writer's Store.
Decker will demonstrate his process by breaking down the recently released movie "300." After providing essential character structure and analysis groundwork, Dan will provide each guest with a beat sheet on the movie to help follow his analysis of the film.
The AWG presents lectures by novelists, screenwriters, agents, producers, and other industry professionals at free monthly meetings. In addition, AWG members may attend special interest groups that offer support and feedback for works-in-progress.
