Dakshin, with its continuing tradition of showcasing the rich culinary heritage of the south will celebrate the 'Karavali Capers', featuring the finned, scaled and shelled treasures of the West coast of India in a festival from May 22 to May 31, 2009. During this period, cuisine from the homes of the Malayalees of Kerala, Bunts of Mangalore, Coorgis of Karnataka and the Portuguese of Goa will be presented in an a la carte menu for lunch and dinner. 'Karavali' or the land by the shore stretches from the rugged coastline of Kerala to the Sun drenched beaches of Goa on the West coast of India. The spectacular and surprising aspect of the countryside is the cuisines of its many communities, which is confined largely to family kitchens. Curries are the soul of Karavali; created from a wealth of local spices, red chilies, coconut, pepper and tamarind besides the various flavoring and tempering which are added as a set combination to form a curry.
