For the first time in the storied history of Yonkers Raceway, the historic New York Daily News Golden Gloves will be contested at the historic half-mile track. The 2011 semi-finals of the fabled amateur boxing tournament will be hosted trackside on Friday, March 25. Open, novice and women’s divisions will each be contested, nine bouts in all, and weight classes will be announced at a later date. First bell is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25; seniors and children under 13 priced at $15.

A tented area will be set up on the trackside apron to house the ring and hundreds of fans in attendance. The oldest and most esteemed amateur event in the U.S.A., celebrating its 84th anniversary this season, Daily News Golden Gloves has produced generations of legendary boxers including Sugar Ray Robinson, Emile Griffith, Floyd Patterson, Riddick Bowe, Gerry Cooney, Mark Breland, Jose Torres, and Zab Judah.
