Daffodil Fest presents Cosmic Jibaros and Rolla at Union Square

In conjunction with Daffodil Fest’s distribution of 50,000 free daffodil bulbs to beautify New York’s neighborhood parks and open spaces, Cosmic Jibaros and Rolla will perform live at Union Square on Saturday, September 30th.

Cosmic Jibaros, who take the stage at 1pm, are a seven-piece Latin ensemble made up of members who have played with Ruben Blades, John Scofield, and Spyro Gyra. Their sound is a mixture of Caribbean, Afro beat, Jazz, and Rock that the Fairfield County Weekly has declared “appeal[s] to a wide audience who wants to feel, and not just hear, their music.”

Rolla, who follow the Jibaros at 2pm, were founded by, Deep Banana Blackout/Tom Tom Club guitarist and vocalist Fuzz and his wife Carrie Sangiovani. Rolla combine introspective lyrics and unpredictable harmonies with the organic textures of a jazz rhythm section that just wants to play rock and roll. The Nantucket Independent has said that the founding couple has “a sort of transfixing power over each other and their audiences.”

Both bands will doubtlessly contribute to the wonderful Daffodil Fest, which will also include free guitar lessons, a giant puppet parade by Puppeteers Cooperative, special reading of Green Heroes by children’s author Marc Tauss, jugglers, clowns, face painting, and free food and drink.
