"There was a combination of stylistic awareness, technical polish and sheer musicality that could hardly be ignored. … In the hands of such musicians, the future of chamber music looks sunshine bright.” (Toronto Star)

Debuting with PCMS, the Daedalus Quartet brings with them a program featuring Brahms lush and romantic second string sextet in G Major. Joining the Daedalus for a performance of this work will be two members of the legendary Guarneri Quartet: Michael Tree, viola and Peter Wiley, cello. It is important to note that while string quartets form the bedrock of the chamber music literature, and string quintets are not uncommon, by contrast, string sextets are relatively rare, and the two composed by Brahms in the 1860s stand as the first important works of their kind.

The Daedalus, named for the mythical Greek inventor and artist who devised wings enabling him to fly, was founded in the summer of 2000. One year later, the Daedalus Quartet won the Grand Prize of the Banff International String Quartet Competition. Since then, the Quartet has performed at major venues throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan.
