Minnesota Cold, a speculative fiction work in the tradition of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaids’ Tale or James Howard Kunstler’s World Made by Hand, looks at a post-nuclear incident society where an unholy collaboration of government and large corporations rules one region of the former United States. Although life returns to a somewhat normal state, labor requirements and limited housing cause stress.

At the core, dissatisfied residents question how much personal freedom a society is willing to relinquish for a sense of personal safety. An unlikely hero will force the both discussion and action.

Graduating from Marquette University’s College of Journalism, Cynthia began her writing career covering suburban government in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and editing a community newspaper. She spent years in corporate communications gaining recognition from a variety of professional organizations. Always curious about the bigger world, she earned a Masters degree from the University of Minnesota in labor economics and educational psychology. She is currently a freelance writer with a specialty in creating business simulation games.

Writing is her passion and delight. Minnesota Cold, a speculative fiction work, explores the social implications of economics-based government in a world recovering from a nuclear incident. At the core of all her work is exploration of the impact of real time and future world stress on families, in particular dysfunctional families. Home and friends are in the Twin Cities.

In spite of raising two great kids, a crazy Wheaton Terrier reminds Cynthia that logic doesn’t always trump spirit.
