Copper Hill Rd.
East Granby, Connecticut

Our next meetup will be Saturday, August 9. (We'll definitely schedule a Sunday in September - I know we're overdue again.)

June (ladymonarda) is helping to plan this meetup.
As usual, all times after our initial start are approximate.

9-11am: Beaver Marsh
Copper Hill Rd, East Granby
Address for MapQuest/GPS: Use 42 Copper Hill Rd. This is the address of the Kessler kennel next door.

We will park in a lot which is shared between Beaver Marsh and Great Marsh, which belong to the East Granby Land Trust. June has checked out the area and recommends walking the 1/2 mile to get to Beaver Marsh because it is more open. We will pass an old quarry and a field of critters (grasshoppers, frogs, butterflies).

11:15am - 12:30pm: Old NewGate Prison
115 Newgate Road, East Granby
Admission: $5 per person
Old NewGate began as a copper mine in the early 1700's then was used as a prison. Part of the site is underground with temperatures in the 50's, so you will probably want to bring a jacket.
Lunch - June suggests a picnic lunch, and I will be bringing something myself. If you'd prefer to venture out, please check out Google Maps in advance for ideas of food nearby.

After lunch until 2:00-ish - Metacomet Trail behind Old NewGate. We may not need quite so long. It depends on how much time we spend at the prison and how many people head out for lunch.

2:15 until we run out of steam - Enders Falls - Granby
Enders State Forest is home to a series of 6 waterfalls. The best info is on ctwaterfalls.com, which has a description of each of the waterfalls.
