Crowning Cuisine November 9, 2008

Women Chefs and Restaurateurs (WCR) will pay tribute to the Washington area’s top women of food featured in the organization’s 2009 Calendar and Recipe Collection at a fundraising event on November 9, 2008.“Crowning Cuisine: More Than Sugar and Spice,” presented in partnership with Visa Signature, will benefit WCR’s scholarship, internship and mentorship programs for women at every stage of their culinary careers.

The event will showcase favorite hors d’oeuvres and wines of the featured women chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers and farm advocates. Almost two dozen prominent D.C.-area women chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers, and farm advocates will be attending, including Tracy O’Grady, Kate Jansen and Alison Christ of Willow Restaurant; Jamie Leeds of CommonWealth Gastropub and Hank’s Oyster Bar; Ris Lacoste of ris (opening Summer 2009); Nora Pouillon of Restaurant Nora; Barbara Black of BlackSalt; Ruth Gresser of Pizzeria Paradiso; Mary Watson-DeLauder of Lansdowne Resort; and many more.

Attendees are eligible to win door prizes ranging from dining certificates at top local restaurants to bottles of wine and more. The grand-prize winner will receive 12 months of personal chef experiences, ranging from cooking lessons in their home to a private meal in a celebrated chef’s home!
