The James Farmer Multi Cultural Center presents CrossCurrents Dance Company, directed by Debra Kanter, as part of the "Culture through the Arts" series.
In honor of Veterans' Day, CCDC will present “Unsung”, choreographed by UMW dance professor Tiffany Haughn. The dance tells the story of war from the soldiers' perspective. Inspired from letters by and interviews with soldiers of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the work depicts the many different aspects of war from tragedy and loss to self sacrifice and the triumph of the human spirit. "Unsung" honors the commitment and sacrifice of soldiers while at the same time serving as a sermon on peace.
Following the performance, the audience is invited to join the dancers in a workshop to reflect on the performance. The workshop will include dialoguing, writing, drawing and movement improvisation. We hope you will join us!
