Critical Focus: A Forum on Media Today
Presents a discussion on Sexuality, Gender and Stereotyping in the Media
Thursday, February 15th, 2007, from 8-9pm
Broadcast LIVE from the SCAT studio in Union Square on Somerville Community Access Television and Cambridge Community Access Television

Somerville Community Access TV and Cambridge Community TV are pleased to announce the latest episode of Critical Focus: A Forum on Media Today. This month’s episode will focus on stereotypes of gender and sexuality in the media.

With stereotypes of manly men eating Burger King cheeseburgers, women who act like their primary concern is their mascara running, white gay men who love to shop and decorate, to the often sensationalized lives of transgender people on television and movies, to the almost non-existence of images of lesbians in mainstream media, what is at stake, and how are we affected? Are we being sold gender ideals and norms, and if so, how do we know?

Media depictions of gender roles and sexuality stereotypes have changed over the past two decades, but is it for the better or for the worse, or is it just different? Join moderator Andi Sutton and guests Nancy Nangeroni, Lisa Henderson, Dr. Brecken Chinn Swartz, and James Nadeau on February 15 as they engage in what should be a very interesting and timely discussion of gender, sexuality and media.

Limited seats are available for our live studio audience. Please call SCAT at 617-628-8826 for a free ticket.
