Zoo visitors will learn all about Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's animal enrichment at Creature Comforts, Saturday, August 9, 2008. Animal enrichment demonstrations will take place throughout the Zoo.

Zookeepers will explain enrichment techniques along with the natural behaviors they promote. Enrichment comes in a variety of forms - during Creature Comforts, guests may observe a polar bear diving for a tasty fish-cicle, a giant Pacific octopus solving a puzzle, Geoffroy's tamarins participating in scale training or black rhinos painting.

Visitors can also learn about enrichment during the Wild Animal Enrichment Show. Taking center stage in the Zoo's Amphitheater at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., this interactive show highlights training techniques that help Zoo staff provide the best care.

Enrichment is essential to every animal's well being and overall health. And, some enrichment activities that are good for tigers and wolves can also be good for cats and dogs. That's pet-richment. The Creature Comforts Activity Area in the Palava Hut Picnic Pavilion will display pet-richment items and offer tips on human enrichment.
