Join us for our second annual local LANDSCAPE DESIGN WORKSHOP with author and designer Julie Moir Messervy!
Creating Home Outside is an informative workshop including lecture, illustrative photographs, lively discussion and opportunities to practice Julies unique design principles. She explains how and why good design works so that we may better attune our properties to meet our needs, as well as fulfill our longing for beauty and meaning. Her lecture is based on a series of seven organizing strategies that can be used successfully by homeowners, gardeners and landscape professionals alike, to achieve cohesive and personally pleasing landscapes. Julie takes participants through an understandable process that yields clear and satisfying results.Over the course of this challenging day-long workshop, participants are introduced to the established design process that Julie presents in her newest book, Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love, published by Taunton Press in January, 2009. The book is an exploration of the steps involved in this process, as experienced by the designers of various residential landscapes around the country and in Canada. Throughout the book, the message conveyed is one of joy in respect to design, and how important ones own personality is in the creation of their landscape. The majority of the featured projects and homes are modest in scope, which shows just how much can be done with a limited budget and plenty of vision. The books landscape designers and landscape architects discuss their particular objectives, their clients needs, the challenges faced, and the inspired results shown in the unique projects. It is a practical, instructional book that combines a proven set of principles with an appreciation for creating a truly beautiful home outside.Spend a refreshing day renewing your sense of discovery for the landscape environment; learn how to strengthen the link between indoors and out; and evaluate your or your clients needs and preferences to help achieve a personal landscape that is uniquely their own. At the end of this hard-working day, youll realize that you know enough to complete a conceptual design for yourself or a client. It will be enjoyed by homeowners and landscape professionals alike. You will leave the workshop with a comprehensive folder of handouts and practical exercises that will summarize the content of Julie's lecture. It will be a helpful record of what you have learned, and you'll be able to refer to it again when you are designing your own (or someone else's) "home outside."
Julie and her team will host a local reception on the evening of August 21, for attendees who arrive the day before the workshop. It will be a nice way to meet new people, share ideas, and meet Julie prior to the busy day of the workshop. The reception is included in the ticket price, as is a fabulous buffet lunch the day of the workshop. Scholarship assistance is available if needed; please inquire.
The Inn at Saxtons River offers a special room price of $99 per attendee for anyone staying in town. Please contact them directly to make a room reservation. We send an accommodation list later in the summer for those who need it. When you register, please be sure to include your phone # and email address, or the best way to contact you.
A mailing will be sent to all registered attendees later in the summer with details. Please email the office with particular questions: [email protected].
Last year's workshop was a great success! The proceeds from the event went to three deserving local organizations. We had a lovely day full of discussion, great lecture, challenging exercises, the beautiful Vermont scene, new friends and connections, and helpful information. We received excellent comments from the group on their evaluations. This year's workshop plans to be just as inspiring! Join us!
