Tacoma, Washington USA

In Washington, beautiful, wild places are so easy to get to that they’re often overlooked. At this free event, outdoor author Craig Romano will reveal the stunning scenery and great hiking destinations of the North Cascades region — the area he calls home —and Tacoma’s own back yard: the Olympic Peninsula.

Drawing from his recently released Day Hiking guidebooks (published by The Mountaineers Books), Craig will present classic hikes as well as some not-so-well-known destinations; easy hikes to challenging heart-thumpers; plus camping spots, beautiful views, great winter hikes, and how to include kids and dogs. Romano points out areas traditionally not covered in hiking guide books, including county parks, state parks, wildlife refuges and tribal lands, and he highlights the region’s natural and cultural history, as well as conflicts and preservation issues facing both regions.

Event: Slide-talk followed by Q&A and book signing, free and open to the public, after the club’s regular meeting.
