Dennis Jay's Adios to DC show/2nd Annual National Day of the American Cowboy Celebration

Teams Up With Pals J.P. McDermott and Billy Coulter for Farewell Show at IOTA July 21

The call of the West was too strong for cowboy singer/songwriter Dennis Jay to resist. Although, he’s spent decades living, working, and traveling in the American West, for the past several years he’s made the DC Metro area his home. Jay has now developed a strong following on the cowboy music circuit and a desire to settle down on a ranch of his own. At the end of July, he’ll tip his hat, saddle-up, and ride off into the sunset as he relocates to Texas. Luckily for area music fans, Dennis and his band Lonesome Town will perform a final farewell show at IOTA Club & Café on Friday, July 21.

This show will also celebrate the 2nd annual National Day of the American Cowboy (July 22nd), which recognizes the nation’s cowboys and cowgirls for their important historical contributions.

Jay writes and performs original songs with roots in traditional C&W, folk, blues, cowboy songs and Mexican ballads. He brings a driving rhythm guitar style to power his stripped-down Folk & Western sound that has been compared to Gene Autry and Marty Robbins. After more than 20 years of performing he release his debut CD "What You See" which earned rave reviews and two Washington Area Music Award (WAMMIE) nominations.

Joining Dennis on stage to wish him “happy trails” are friends JP McDermott (Rockabilly and Honky Tonk) and Billy Coulter (Roots Rock) who will each perform sets of their material with pared-down versions of their respective bands.

J.P. McDermott & Western Bop have become D.C.’s premier rockabilly band. Recent awards include “Country Vocalist of the Year” for J.P. and “Country Recording of the Year” for the band’s 2005 debut CD, “Last Fool Here.” The Washington Post calls the music “Honky-tonk the way it should be”, and On Tap Magazine dubbed J.P. “The Keeper of the Rockabilly Flame.” McDermott says, “Dennis and I have really enjoyed playing shows together – I love his tunes. I’m sorry to see him go, but really looking forward to the show.”

Singer/songwriter Billy Coulter recently won the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest's “Rock” category and has also received multiple WAMMIE nominations since his return to performing in 2003. Coulter and his group perform their own brand of authentic roots/rock. Music Monthly calls their CD "straight forward and gimmick free." And the Chesapeake Music Guide remarked, "Good tunes with memorable melodies and subjects that everyday folks can relate to."
