"dirty girl" and other dances includes three world premieres and promotes the talent of the Bay Area's finest artists.
Dancers Peta Barrett, Alexandra Bradshaw, Christina Chelette, Kristina Kirshner, Helen Nowik, Ildiko Polony, LizAnne Roman, join "purveyor of style" Wendy Earl, to form a provocative and resonant evening of fine art. In addition, guest dance artists Brendan Barthel and Nol Simonse will fortify the cast of excellent dancers.
For Courage Group's seventh season, Artistic Director Todd Courage has choreographed three new works: two complementary works of approximately 30 minutes each, entitled "dirty girl" and "but you can't hide," and a classical suite set to Baroque music. The classical piece, a nod to Courage's reverence for classical dance, serves as an introduction to his movement vocabulary.
The piece "dirty girl" is a departure for Courage. The intent is to encourage viewers' own reflections on discarding the shame that often accompanies sexual awakening, while the simultaneously intimate and cathartic nature of the piece taps into a universal and timeless search for personal authenticity.
"but you can't hide" addresses avoidance, escapism, and running from that which one can never elude: ourselves.
