Cosmic Landscapes - Artworks by Sheelaa. Sheelaa is a self-taught artist based in Chennai whose creative journey started in 2002. From her experimental figurative ink drawings and renderings, she graduated in her creative investigation and experimentation, realizing that she could effortlessly replace a representative subject or a theme with colours. Hence colour for her emerged as the form, leading her towards abstraction as a natural process with which she became comfortable as her visual language.For Sheelaa, there are no thematic messages, no mythical figure but only colours and textures. Hers is a disposition and a dimension in art that one calls cosmic. An encounter with her works creates visual titillation as her surfaces are marked by definitive textures. Her colours are equally powerful in their manipulation and juxtaposition. Her moods and emotions are invariably mediated through the colours while her textures are significant silences of her inner tensions and angst interpolating freely on the surface to serve as dissipation.A graduate majoring in sociology with a post graduate diploma in marketing, she held her first solo show at Vinyaasa Art Gallery, Chennai, in 2007 with a collection of textured abstract Paintings. She also has participated in many group shows in Bangalore and Chennai.
