CORTEX: a multidisciplinary event September 19, 2006

Presented in conjunction with the Edmonton Poetry Festival

cerebral cortex, n. The outer layer of gray matter largely responsible for higher brain functions, including sensation, voluntary muscle movement, thought, reasoning, and memory.

CORTEX brings together poets, visual artists, videographers, musicians, and dancers to create and perform work prompted by each others' artistry. Artists will have the opportunity to view each other’s work in advance, and create new works based on what they have seen/read, or they can “pair” existing work to material they feel drawn to from the work of another artist. Readings will be incorporated into the concert/event, quite possibly with music and movement accompanying the poetry.

CORTEX will also feature mobilepoetrymobile, a three-dimensional presentation of poetry selected from Edmonton Transit's "take the poetry route" bus inserts.
