Cooking & Southern Women: A History Lecture June 1, 2010

From ambrosia to strawberry shortcake, southern women, black and white, have always been famous for their cooking. This discussion by Rebecca Sharpless, Assistant Professor of History at Texas Christian University, will trace southern women and cooking, from plantation and frontier homes to the boardinghouses and restaurants made famous by their excellent food before World War II.

This lecture is being held in conjunction with Farmers Branch’s first ever Branch Gel-Off! Contestants may enter their most movingly delicious gelatin creations in three categories: best tasting, most original and most beautiful. Judging will take place during the lecture and ribbons awarded directly afterwards. All in attendance will then have the opportunity to taste all of the wiggly creations.
