Conya Doss and Grammy Award Winner Gordon Chambers perform for Mocha Mahogany Mixer April 28, 2007

Conya Doss and Gordon Chambers will perform Saturday, April 28, 2007 at The City Theatre next door to Hockeytown Cafe (formerly Second City), 2301 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201. Gordon ChambersConya’s music is a hybrid of up-tempo jams and slow grooves that artistically join her sleek voice with intoxicating melodies. Her music invokes the spirits of legendary composer-singers like Chaka Khan, Betty Wright, Natalie Cole, Me’shell N’Degeocello and Alanis Morisette. As her predecessors Erykah Badu, India Arie and Jill Scott did for Dallas, Atlanta and Philly, Conya plans to put Ohio on the soul music map. Conya has shared stages with a spectrum of artists ranging from Kem to Frankie Beverly & Maze, to name a few, as well as working with the legendary Gerald Levert.

Gordon Chambers is best known for writing both the 1994 Grammy-winning hit “I Apologize” for Anita Baker and the #1 Grammy-nominated smash “If You Love Me” for the trio Brownstone. The eight-time ASCAP winner has penned tunes for superstars The Isley Brothers, Yolanda Adams, Patti Labelle & Ron Isley, R&B crooner Carl Thomas, and Angie Stone. Anyone that enjoys good music that stands the test of time will certainly love the sophisticated style and heartfelt compositions that have become the signature of Gordon Chambers.

Yolanda Johnson’s charming single, “Individual can be heard everyday on BETJ’s “Soul Sessions.” Why? Because it’s the theme song for the popular alternative R&B video show. That song, paired with Johnson being named “Soul Sessions’ Breakout Artist of 2006,” has raised the profile of the young California-based singer and songwriter. Yolanda is indeed an “individual” artist, seeking to heal others through her captivating songs on her latest disc, Violet Flower.

Finally, Peter Hadar possesses a voice that falls somewhere between BeBe Winans and Jaheim. He has already earned credits as a songwriter among the singers and musicians leading the new soul movement. His Debut CD, “Memories of the Heart” is a refreshing and innovative. Peter Hadar’s music is strongly influenced by the soulful sounds of the 70’s but skillfully enhanced by his own streetwise edge; enabling “Memories of the Heart” to stand out among releases of the past year.
