Raymond McGuire, co-head of global investment banking at Citigroup, will give the opening convocation address on Monday, September 12, at 3 p.m. in Carleton College?s Skinner Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

McGuire is managing director and co-head of global investment banking, based in New York. He has executed a broad range of domestic and international strategic advisory transactions including takeover defense, merger restructuring, acquisition and divestiture mandates. Prior to joining Citigroup, he was the global co-head of mergers and acquisitions at Morgan Stanley, managing director in the mergers and acquisitions group of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. and one of the original members of Wasserstein Perella & Co., Inc. where he became a partner/managing director in 1991. He started his career in 1984 in the mergers and acquisitions group of The First Boston Corporation.

He received his A.B. from Harvard College, his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. He also attended the University of Nice, France, while on a Rotary Fellowship. He has had legal experience at the law firms of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom as well as Patterson, Belknap, Webb and Tyler.

McGuire serves on several boards including those of De La Salle Academy, the International Center of Photography, Lincoln Center, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the Mayor?s Cultural Affairs Advisory Committee for the City of New York, the San Remo Tenants? Corporation, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Alex Hillman Family Foundation and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He has also served on various committees at Harvard University, most recently as a member of the Overseers/Directors Nominating Committee.

Honored by Harvard Business School with the Alumni Professional Achievement Award, McGuire has spoken at Harvard Law School?s Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series and emceed the first Harvard Black Alumni Weekend. He has been the keynote speaker at Columbia Business School?s annual Investment Banking Conference and was recently honored as a distinguished ?Patron of the Arts? by Pratt Institute. In August, McGuire appeared on Fortune magazine?s ?Diversity 2005: The Most Influential? list.
