8:15 pm - The Wigg Report
(Pop Punk/Alternative/Indie)

From a review at The Perm & The Skullet:

"It's not often you find a great band that you never heard of in your own back yard, but that's just what I did near the end of last year. With two cds under their belt, (Seltzer and Flexi Slacks) The Wigg Report are hitting on all cylinders and hints in their sound rushed me back to my college years. When I say college years, I want it known that I'm not saying they sound like a band from 10 years ago, but the feeling they create when you hear their music, and especially when you hear them live, is an amazing rush of energy and pure emotion.

I keep telling myself that uttering The Wigg Report in the same breath with The Pixies, or The Violent Femmes even, would be blasphemy, you can't compare Black Francis and crew to anyone, but the more I hear the whole of their work, the more I have to draw a similar parallel between either one of these bands. It's not so much a "sounds like" comparison, but it's more a feeling I get when their music rushes through my headphones. Stephen Mullaney, Christine Fantini, and Ben Riseling , make up Durham's own, The Wigg Report. [...]"

9:45 pm - Little Mascara
(Punk/ Rock/Garage)

From a story at goTriad:

"What started out as a cover band quickly evolved into something a bit different with a little more hot pink and black: a rock-n-roll garage punk band.

"We wrote our first song at our first practice. Our originals were just so much better [than our covers]," explained Derusha. "It was just this thing that transpired, this punk rock, new-wave, garage something."

With a rock-n-roll equation of mischief, vintage cars, trouble, thrift stores, bar fights, alcohol, and a muse (rock band The Detroit Cobras), Little Mascara is having a blast.

"For me the whole idea behind the band is to be kind of free," explained Micca. "I want songs to be fast and fun. I don't want to worry about being crafty; it's all about having fun and good energy."

11:15 pm - Thacker Dairy Road
(Americana/Soul/Roots Music)

From a story at Yes! Weekly:

"[...] All six bands on the bill tonight have already cleared two tiers of competition, each besting 10 other bands. So a couple minutes after 8 p.m. on a recent Saturday night, Thacker Dairy Road is already deep in their element, pouring all their feeling and instrumental virtuosity into the sonic stew of winsome back-country funk and poetics that is fast becoming a signature sound. And even though the evening air has started to cool on this first day of September they're sweating.

[...]

With their last three songs, Thacker Dairy Road takes its game to new heights. "Repo Man" simmers with distilled intensity and McGinn's vocals swelter with protestation. With "Deep Ellum Blues," the band takes the traditional song popularized by Jerry Garcia and transforms it into a funky stroll with a rolling bass line and frenetic interplay between the fiddle and guitar. And then they close with "Take Away," a song written by Stevens that showcases the two women singing in a harmony simultaneously powerful and delicate. [...]
