Art buffs will soon have an opportunity to view a unique collection of artwork from some of the foremost contemporary artists in the world. The exhibit, “Epiphanies of Beauty,” features contemporary interpretations of familiar biblical and theological themes and will be on display in the William Smith Morton Library at Union-PSCE, March 15-May 7.
Featuring 20 works from the collection of David C. & Sarah W. Partington, the exhibit includes He Qi’s “Supper at Emmaus,” Edward Knippers’ “Baptism of Christ” and Makoto Fujimura’s “Shalom.” David Partington earned a divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in 1978. He and his wife are generously sharing this impressive collection for the art exhibit, funded with the support of The Carl Howie Center for Science, Art and Theology at Union-PSCE.
The exhibit will be on display in the soaring atrium of the Library, itself an architectural treasure. The historic renovation of the theological library won the Virginia Society AIA Design Award for Excellence in Architecture in 1997.
The show will be open to the public:
Monday–Saturday, 1–4 p.m. from March 15-May 7. (closed April 2 – 3)
