Daguerreotype is a unique photographic process in its own right: one unique positive image emerges on an elusive mirror-like surface. It is one of the historical processes which heightens the sense of the photograph as an object.

This hands-on workshop will introduce you to creating daguerreotypes with a modern approach. 4x5 cameras and modern handmade equipment will be used while still maintaining the authenticity of the process. In this workshop, we will cover the chemistry, necessary equipment, and proper safety for making daguerreotypes and the workshop will cover many technical details, there will be ample time to create images on silver plates, and participants are encouraged to bring props and objects to photograph during the workshop.

In addition, the construction and modification of equipment, as well as care and preservation issues pertaining to the process will be discussed. If you would like to jump into the world of Daguerreotype, this will be a great opportunity for you.
