UC Berkeley's 0n0n0n series of conferences continues with 10/10/10: Cell Phone Justice, a conference concerned with the cell phone's impact on crime and justice. Informed by recent events where cell phones played a role in the fight for justice, and other events where cell phones played a role in perpetrating crimes, panelists will discuss some social and cultural complexities of the most ubiquitous handheld device on the planet.

Cell phones are tools of justice, crime and liberation but also tools of surveillance. The individual gains expressive freedoms, while the corporate powers that shape our communities gain data. This data about our daily habits and trajectories plays a role in predicting human activity, which could help us achieve better collective welfare. On the other hand, it may become necessary to deprogram from cell phone usage, and learn what, beyond information, makes life precious.

Organized by Dr. Cecil Brown and artist and Professor Greg Niemeyer (UC Berkeley) at the Center for New Media.
