Internationally renowned euphonium soloist Adam Frey will appear in concert with the Ypsilanti Community Band on February 18, 7:30 p.m., in Towsley Auditorium of Washtenaw Community College. The concert is free and open to the public. Middle school, high school, and university euphonium and other low brass players are especially urged to be in attendance to hear this extraordinarily talented musician.
Frey, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, holds degrees from the University of Georgia and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. In addition to his extensive performing all over the world, Frey is a member of the faculty at both Emory University and Georgia State University.
"Those of us who have had a chance to hear Adam perform, live, with a concert band are awe-struck by his technical skills," said Jerry Robbins, conductor of the Ypsilanti Community Band. "We are indeed fortunate to have him in our area," Dr. Robbins added.
Frey has made eight solo CD's and he appears on 10 others. More than 70 works have been composed or specifically arranged for him. Despite the fact that the euphonium is not customarily used in orchestras, Frey has appeared with 22 orchestras in five countries. In

addition, he has appeared with approximately 70 brass and wind bands throughout the U.S and several dozen other countries.
Highly regarded as a teacher as well as a performer, Frey has held residencies or conducted master classes at approximately 60 higher education institutions and numerous high schools throughout the U.S. and in other countries. He will be conducting master classes at Eastern Michigan University and at Western Michigan University on the same trip to Michigan in which he performs with YCB.
Accompanied by the Ypsilanti Community Band, Frey will perform "Nessun Dorma" (from Puccini's Turandot), "Gabriel's Oboe" (from the movie The Mission), the famous valse caprice "Beautiful Colorado" (de Luca), and Hartmann's incredibly difficult theme and variations on "Rule Britannia."
In addition to the featured soloist, EMU senior Brad Faryniarz will guest conduct Frescobaldi's "Toccata," and YCB assistant conductor Vince Chrisman will direct selections from the recent hit musical "Wicked." Oakland County resident George Sinnott will be recognized as the arranger for "The Muppet Show Theme."
