The San Francisco Early Music Society welcomes its newest affiliate, Barefoot Chamber Concerts. This Friday evening concert series offers a new way to start the weekend, with great music in a relaxed setting. The series is committed to musical excellence without the formality of the conventional concert setting. Concerts will start at 6 p.m. and will last 60-75 minutes without intermission. Light refreshments will be available, and there will be ample time to move on to other evening entertainments.

The series' inaugural concert presents Ensemble Confluentes (Cathie Apple, flute; Alex Ives, harpsichord; Charles Spruill, IV, violin; and Tim Stanley, cello; with guests Noah Ryan, oboe; and Dorian Antipa, bassoon), who will perform Johann Sebastian Bach's great Trio Sonata from the Music Offering; Paris Quartet no. 1 in G major by Georg Philipp Telemann; and Sonata in F major, ZWV 181 by Jan Dismas Zelenka.

This exciting young baroque ensemble from Sacramento was selected to perform in the 2008 Berkeley Early Music Festival. Unfortunately for both performers and audience, an equipment-failure issue necessitated the concert's cancellation. Now, at last, this fine group makes its eagerly-awaited Bay Area debut.

Future Barefoot Chamber Concerts will present Hallifax & Jeffrey playing English music for 2 viols; Janet See and Kathy Roberts Perl with music by Bach for flute and harpsichord; and violinist Cynthia Miller Freivogel, who will play unaccompanied Bach. Details at www.barefootchamberconcerts.com.
