The Seville Royal Symphony Orchestra was established in 1991, with the support of the province of Andalusiaand the Seville Municipal Government and in 1995 was granted the titleRoyal by His Majesty Juan Carlos I. With 103 players, it is under theartistic direction of Pedro Halffter, who was preceded by VjekoslavSutej, Klaus Weise and Alain Lombard. The orchestra offers asubscription series, with concerts that have brought collaboration withinternationally distinguished conductors and soloists, and serves alsoin opera and ballet, while also offering film and popular music, inaddition to standard and other contemporary epertoire. The ChamberOrchestra, with smaller ensembles drawn from the main orchestra,provides other repertoire, and there have been many recordings,television appearances and broadcasts, all enriching the cultural lifeof the city and region.
