The 1st Annual Monologue Slam Festival
Think your monologue KICKS ASS, or is just so avant-garde people don't know whether to applaud your creativity, bravery or stupidity? Well if you think you have the acting chops then let the judges and audience decide.
The 1st Annual Monologue Slam Festival is for any and all interested actors. There will be CASH prizes for the top three monologues, plus a CASH prize for one Audience Favorite! Come perform your monologue in front of LA's entertainment industry and show them how you can crush the competition.
What Do I Perform? / Monologue Slam Rules:
-Participants are asked to preferably prepare a theatrical monologue from a published play. All participants are required to provide the name of the play and the playwright when applying. As an alternative, if a participant chooses, he/she may also perform their own original material which must be a character based theatrical monologue.
-Improvisations, screenplays, stand up, poetry or storytelling is strictly forbidden. The judging panel each night reserves the right to determine if your performance piece disregards these conditions.
-Choose a monologue that you feel shows you to your best advantage, and one that is close to you in age, range and experience.
-Material performed must not be longer then 2 minutes.
-All performances will be timed. At the 2minute mark, participants will be notified with a “chime”. There is no penalty if you finish within 2minutes and 5seconds. For every second beyond the 2minute 5second mark, participants will be penalized 1 point per second over time. Judges will stop the monologue if it lasts longer than 2mins 15seconds. Judges will automatically disqualify anyone who goes beyond this time. Disqualification and no-shows will result in forfeiture of all registration fees. If selected for the Grand Final, you may choose to re-perform your monologue, choose to do a new piece from a published play or your own character based theatrical monologue.
