Abstract:
I will discuss Companions technologies which are technologies that are personalised to individuals, technologies 'that know their owners'. The aim of companion technologies is not simply utilitarian.

They aim to engage people and provide enjoyable experiences for them. The attributes of such technologies will be discussed and examples presented.

Speaker:
David Benyon is Professor of Human-Computer Systems and director of Centre for Interaction Design at Edinburgh Napier University, UK. He has been working in the area of human-computer interaction and interaction design for over 25 years.

He has written widely on the subject with over 150 publications covering HCI, interaction design and intelligent user interfaces. He published one of the first textbooks on HCI and recently completed the 2nd edition of the textbook Designing Interactive Systems: a comprehensive guide to human-computer interaction and interaction design (Pearson, 2010).
