UCSF will hold a community festival to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay. The world-class hospital complex for children, women and cancer patients in the Mission Bay neighborhood, south of downtown San Francisco, is set for completion in 2014. The festival will serve to educate residents about the medical center’s many services and to thank the community for its ongoing support of the hospital complex.

The community celebration will feature a main tent and numerous booths, demonstrations and even a seasonal farmers market offering free recipes. Entertainment will include children’s music; a capella singing; flamenco; Indian jazz; belly dancing; and cello and guitar selections. Wellness demonstrations will include Eastern meditation and movement techniques such as dayan qigong and tai chi, and many other programs offered through UCSF. Additional displays will focus on environmental sustainability and artistic expression.

A number of local chefs will be on hand to conduct cooking demonstrations including Yigit Pura, executive pastry chef for Taste Catering and Event Planning in San Francisco. Pura currently is a competitor on the national show BRAVO TOP CHEF Just Desserts.
