Robert Moses said, "You can't make an omelet without breaking eggs." So, who ordered the omelet? Big projects promise big returns, but may disproportionately benefit the well-connected. Are the economic fibers that connect communities -- commerce and common sense --undermined as a result?

In a provocative lecture, Majora Carter, Executive Director of Sustainable South Bronx, will discuss the implications of the "top-down" paradigm that she argues characterizes development today.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition "Robert Moses and the Modern City: Remaking the Metropolis". "Robert Moses and the Modern City: Remaking the Metropolis" focuses on the physical transformation of New York City guided by city planner Robert Moses. Proclaiming that "the city must be saved," Moses literally remade the landscape of the city with roads, tunnels, and bridges, new landmarks and parks, and massive urban renewal projects. Documents, photographs, publicity brochures, and never-before-exhibited three-dimensional models of Moses' projects-both realized and failed-trace the controversial history of this complicated figure.
