Each year since 1988, The Commonwealth Club has bestowed its Distinguished Citizen Award on one or more individuals, recognizing their noteworthy contributions to local and global society. This year, The Commonwealth Club greatly looks forward to honoring "The Spirit of California." Distinguished Honorees include:

Jack O'Neill, Founder, O'Neill Wetsuits
Dr. Bill Rutter, Chairman and CEO, Synergenics
Hon. George P. Shultz, Former Secretary of State, and
Charlotte Mailliard Shultz, Chief of Protocol for the State of California and for the City of San Francisco

The most recent Distinguished Citizen Award recipients include The Honorable William H. Draper, III, Google.org and The Skoll Foundation for their innumerable contributions to social entrepreneurship. The Club has also honored Toni Rembe and Arthur Rock, Gordon and Betty Moore, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, David Packard, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Chris and Warren Hellman, the Lane Family and Sunset Magazine, and Stephen D. Bechtel, Sr., among others.
