Dog House Riley Productions and The Gladstone Hotel are hosting a docu-party about pre-production and the process of trying to ‘make it’.
“Come Up To My Documentary” is both a fundraiser for a short film called “Waiting Room” and the subject of an on-site documentary. Set amidst the über-cool Victorian vibe of The Gladstone Hotel, this party explores the role of fundraising within independent filmmaking and within the cultural industry. Inspired by New Wave cinema and its open critique on the cost of production, the night serves as a vehicle for highlighting the creative strategies that artists use to help support and realize their projects. It is an open casting call for local actors, filmmakers, artists, musicians, and curators to tell us about their triumphs, failures, and ambitions. Above all, it’s just a really wicked party.
The event will be featuring the musical debut of the unabashedly experimental and socially engaged, funk/alt country stylings of The Pantz. Guests will also have the rare opportunity to view the 'reel' work of Toronto-based actors, directors, editors, and cinematographers. Gladstone Artist-in-Residence Bruno Billio is opening up his charming and stylish digs for more intimate conversations, and Aniko and Ariel Garten of The Spa Suite are offering various therapeutic treatments. Vintage lovers will have a chance to win gift certificates towards their next great find courtesy of Mad Gypsy or unique local designs from Propaganda.
Come up to my documentary. Hang out and trade stories with the local cultural community. Debate the politics of schmooze. Tell us about what it takes to ‘make it’.
