The Ancient Art of Kathak Explained
Kathak is a classical dance form of Northern India. The work kathak means One who tells a story. Originally this community of artists, known as Kathakars, narrated stories in the temples of North India. Kathak uniquely blends the Hindu and Muslim systems of art and aesthetics. It later became the dance of the Moghul courts, where it acquired the sophisticated elegance and subtle nuances which distinguish it from other Indian classical dances.

Explore this world of rhythm with Rina Singha—one of Canada’s most important cultural ambassadors. Ms Singha came to Canada over 40 years ago and brought with her the rich and ancient tradition of Kathak. She will show various elements of Kathak from several of her solos and explain to the audience what they have experienced.
