Premise – Central to the debate on same-sex marriage in the African-American community is the institution of the black church. Despite media portrayals suggesting complete disapproval, African-American clergy have a variety of opinions on same-sex marriage.

The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies at the Pacific School of Religion is proud to sponsor a Town Hall discussion among Bay Area African-American clergy with the actors of the ground-breaking Logo network hit television series Noah’s Arc, also starring in the feature film Noah’s Arc: Jumping the Broom, which deals with love and marriage among African-American gay men.

The audience will have the opportunity to hear from and participate with the actors as they share their thoughts on making the first black gay love story for the big screen and speak in support of Marriage Equality in California. This event will highlight an inclusive vision among African-Americans and will be captured on film for a documentary that will be used as an educational tool for congregations and classrooms.

Clergy participating in the discussion with the cast will include:

* Rev. Roland Stringfellow, director of the Bay Area Coalition of Welcoming Congregations
* Rev. Lynice Pinkard, pastor, First Congregational Church of Oakland
* Rev. Francine Brookins, pastor, Wright Chapel A.M.E. Church San Francisco
* Rev. Dr. Dorsey Blake, Dean of the Faculty Starr King School for the Ministry

Also participating will be San Francisco’s Transcendence Gospel Choir, the nations’ first all-transgender choir. Prior to this event, there will be a delicious catered Media Reception where local and national media outlets will be present. The pubic is invited to join the fun, possibly get their photo into a magazine, and have the opportunity to meet the actors up close and personal as well as have the opportunity to get their autographs, take photos, and purchase Noah’s Arc memorabilia. Voter registration and “No on Prop 8” information will be available prior and following this forum.
