The Young Blood Hungers

Based on the writings of Harlem Renaissance writer Marita Bonner, The Young Blood Hungers tells the story of a group of restless youth from a time not so long ago - their families, their dreams, their haunts and their heart-wrenching reality - woven together with bold action, cool rhythms and saucy a cappella music.

The Young Blood Hungers is the culmination of a five-week process of creation. Working in close collaboration with CPT Artist-Instructors, inner-city teenagers developed every element of the play. Using Bonner's writings as a starting point, Artist-Instructors and Education Director Chris Seibert guided these extraordinary young people on a journey of self-discovery and awareness through the dramatic arts. During the five weeks, students receive top-notch training in theatre arts and creative expression as well as valuable job training skills such as timeliness, commitment and teamwork.

The Young Blood Hungers opens on Thursday, August 3rd and runs through Sunday, August 13th, traveling to ten different parks across the city (schedule below). All performances are free and open to the public, with no advance reservations required.
