The Redwood Symphony is an innovative community orchestra known for exemplary musicianship and for introducing local audiences to edgier, more modern music as well as thoughtful presentation of the classics. Founded in 1985, as an all-volunteer orchestra devoted to ambitious and contemporary repertoire, Redwood Symphony has performed works ranging from Mahler and Beethoven to Frank Zappa and Charles Ives in an informal and fun format.

The 21st season will include an ambitious, eclectic mix of beloved classics by composers such as Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Brahms, as well as the most innovative and entertaining music of our own time, sprinkled with pops, jazz, and film scores. This special season will feature a 20th birthday celebration for the orchestra, an exciting premiere, outstanding soloists, a special program of Jewish theater music and an afternoon Family Concert targeted at exposing young listeners to musical works that may change their lives forever.

For the classical music lover in everyone, Redwood City is launching a new Classical Music Series for 2010. The series launches at 6pm on June 26th with The West Bay Community Band, and then continues on July 31stwith the Peninsula Symphony. The great classical music continues on September 19th with the innovative Redwood Symphony. You won’t want to miss these free classical concerts, performed outdoors on beautiful Courthouse Square for your musical enjoyment.

Along with the Classical Series, other exciting FREE events include: Dancing on the Square on Tuesdays, Movies on the Square on Thursdays, Music on the Square on Fridays, and Jazz on Main on Mondays. Other ongoing events in the coming months include seven special outdoor exhibits featuring Art on the Square, Monday and Wednesday afternoon performances with Lunchtime on the Square, as well as weekend Target Family Days, and Cultural Events.
