Japan's first "operetta" musical and a celebrated classic of 1930s cinema that is still virtually unknown in the West. The story - propelled by a series of upbeat and entirely hummable musical numbers - is about an umbrella maker's daughter who has to choose between two men who are courting her: a ronin samurai and a rich lord.
