Opening the public season in dramatic style, the Sealed Knot is invading Caldicot Castle this Easter! The Army of Parliament is arriving to storm this Royalist stronghold, bringing with them Waller’s Regiment of Horse who will be stationed outside the castle and giving spectacular static and mounted displays throughout the weekend. Watch as the Sealed Knot’s impressive army brings vividly to life one of the battles that shaped our nation, training soldiers for war and giving artillery and sword displays. This exciting and realistic re-enactment is a great way to give children hands-on experience of history.

This event offers fun family entertainment with a chance to learn about Civil War cookery and social standing, games and leisure of the seventeenth-century, and period wood, bone and leather-working, as well as finding out about Civil War coins, values and wages. Get real insight into how our ancestors lived their lives and coped with the shock of the war! At various times over the weekend there will be swordplay and drill displays in the castle’s courtyard and grounds, including displays from the Regiment of Horse. Need a break from the battle? Then wander over to the living history encampment, where you can see seventeenth-century dances and listen to period music.

As a highlight of this three-day event, on Sunday and Monday the Army of Parliament will hold an afternoon skirmish, including a spectacular assault on the castle! This thrilling event is not to be missed and is the perfect way to enjoy the Easter holidays. Help us to celebrate the re-opening of the Castle in style with the Sealed Knot!
