Can you tell puffin from a gull? A grebe from a loon? Perhaps, but can you identify them by the foot alone? Or by a wing? The Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST) is a citizen science project based at the University of Washington, which believes citizens of coastal communities are essential scientific partners in monitoring marine ecosystem health. Come investigate seabirds CSI-style, and hear how COASST volunteers contribute to seabird research and marine conservation. This class will make use of Burke ornithology collections. All class proceeds benefit the Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team. Class fee is $35; pre-registration is required by March 10. To register, please e-mail [email protected] or call 206-543-9681.
