Birdhouse Factory, conjured by a creative team of Cirque du Soleil veterans, is a show in which acrobats and early-twentieth-century machines come together. Paying tribute to a time gone by, Birdhouse Factory integrates an assembly line with fanciful original machines that power or assist the circus acts. Diego Rivera’s Detroit Industry Murals, the outrageous illustrations of cartoonist Rube Goldberg, and Charlie Chaplin’s film Modern Times are among the artful, nostalgic, and funny inspirations for the show. The inventive machines and energetic talents of the acrobats, dancers, contortionists, and clowns—former members of Cirque du Soleil, the Pickle Family Circus, and the Moscow Circus—transform the mundane into the magnificent. The seamless blend of mechanics and art tells a story of laughter, love, flight, loss—and the quest to build the perfect birdhouse.
