World-renowned cinematographer Ellen Kuras, ASC, will join the SFIAAFF to share how she creates a fi lms look, meaning and emotion using light and composition. One of the American cinemas most sought-after directors of photography, Kuras has teamed with such acclaimed fi lmmakers as Michel Gondry, Rebecca Miller, and Spike Lee.

Equally adept at shooting documentaries and narrative work, indie films and studio pictures, she will talk about what inspired her to become a cinematographer, show clips from her best and most challenging films, and explore the particularity of documentary and narrative forms. She will also provide insight on collaborating with directors and the cinematographers decision-making process.

Ellen Kuras is the only three-time recipient of the Sundance Film Festival award for Best Dramatic Cinematography; she won for her work on SWOON, ANGELA, and PERSONAL VELOCITY. She has been nominated for an Emmy for CENTURY OF WOMEN and Spike Lees FOUR LITTLE GIRLS (which was also nominated for an Oscar). Some of her many other credits include ANALYZE THAT, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, UNZIPPED, I SHOT ANDY WARHOL, SUMMER OF SAM, and BAMBOOZLED. Kuras received the New York Women in Film MUSE Award in 2003 and was just recently awarded a Gotham Tribute Award this past November 2006.
