About the Program
Since its inception in January of 2007, the POPF is dedicated to increase the number of patients receiving effective pain relief. The Chronic Pain Awareness and Advocacy Program seeks to accomplish this outcome by arming pain patients, their caretakers, family and healthcare professionals with practical information. This includes the patient's ability to understand healthcare communication including prescription instructions, test results, insurance forms, what to expect as a patient when receiving healthcare and what caretakers can do to assist the pain patient they are working with. We are working to empower patients to be self-advocates, improving pain care, and positioning pain management as a major healthcare priority.

Through the Chronic Pain Awareness and Advocacy Program, we share ideas, build effective strategies, inspire patient action and unite as a powerful force to improve pain management in our communities and across the nation. Many people do not know that they have the right to have their report of pain believed by their healthcare professionals, and to have their pain assessed and treated. The Chronic Pain Awareness and Advocacy Program encourages people with pain to insist on the care they need and deserve and offers tools to accomplish this.

A local speaking engagement is an ideal forum to help educate people in pain, their families, friends and caretakers about issues surrounding pain management, as well as inform them of their rights and encourage people with pain to demand the care they need. The Program Goals are to inform and support pain patients. We will inform patients by providing up-to-date pain care information. We show support through providing resources to people with pain, empower patients to become self-advocates and supply resources to people with pain to improve care.
