The Sydney Welsh Choir and Blacktown City Band will unite at Riverside Theatres on Sunday December 16 at 3pm to present Christmas Cheer. Christmas has never before sounded so joyous. Rich male baritones blend with lilting female voices and an accompaniment that is big, brassy and rousing as these two Riverside much loved groups present the music of the festive season: White Christmas, Good King Wenceslas, Deck the Halls, Joy to the World; plus traditional carols, folk songs, much loved Welsh songs Ar Hyd Y Nos (All Through the Night), Calon Lan and Cwm Rhondda (Bread of Heaven) as well as popular tunes including Do You Hear The People Sing, songs from the Seekers and many other Australian favourites. To hear the Sydney Welsh Choir sing The Hallelujah Chorus is almost the best Christmas gift of all. The choir and band will be conducted by Viv Llewellyn and Bill Belcher AOM.

Viv Llewellyn has been the Music Director of the Sydney Welsh Choir since 2003. He was born in Porthcawl, South Wales. He was an Eisteddfod competitor as a boy soprano as well as singing in church and chapel choirs. He came to Australia in 1973 to continue his career as a teacher of music and drama, undertaking further music studies at UTS. Viv is an accomplished musician, singer, actor and director of musical theatre.

“The Sydney Welsh Choir is very excited about the upcoming Christmas show at Riverside this year particularly as we will be sharing it with our good friends in the Blacktown City Band.” said Viv Llewellyn, the Musical Director of the Sydney Welsh Choir. “We are looking forward to creating a very festive atmosphere and the audience will also be able to join in swelling the Christmas chorus.”

Recently returned from a highly successful tour of China, the Blacktown City Band and conductor Bill Belcher OAM, unite with the internationally acclaimed 70 voice Sydney Welsh Choir to create an unforgettable treat for all the family.
