Christmas at the Edgewater, a radio-theatre presentation December 17, 2006

"Christmas at the Edgewater" will delight theatregoers with echoes of Christmas past through the magic of a radio-theatrical production presented by Palomino Entertainment Group and the Williamsburg Regional Library. The radio-play will be presented in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street, on December 14, 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. and on December 17 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students with ID and $6 for those under 16. It's Christmas 1951 and famed Broadway actress and singer Gertrude Lawrence is performing a one-woman radio show at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago. The sight of a soldier in the audience causes her to pause in her performance. Memories of England before the war overwhelm her and, in a series of flashbacks, interlaced with songs and tunes of Christmases past, she recalls her early career in the theatre, and the very special role that Noel Coward played in her life. This one-woman play, performed by Richmond actress Terry Menefee Gau, and written and directed by New York-director Victoria Racimo, will transport you back to an earlier time through song and story.

"Christmas at the Edgewater" is the latest work in the series, "The Play's the Thing," featuring old-time radio style recreations of plays and tales with live, on-stage sound effects and actors. The same series presented the Virginia premier of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize winning play, "Anna in the Tropics," the radio recreation of "The War of the Worlds" and last year's "White Christmas." Through live sound effects and talented actors, the shows transport audiences to a different time and place.
